AAA Migration Resistance
Dr. Vito Mantese, Vascular Surgeon, St. Louis Vascular Center
The Zenith Flex
endograft has many exceptional features. One of the most important is its ability to resist migration because of its proximal fixation mechanism. The transrenal stents, combined with barbs, are a proven combination for migration prevention. This Zenith Flex endograft also resists migration because it is placed so that the graft bifurcation is near the native aortic bifurcation. In addition, the graft is versatile so that common iliac artery coverage can be maximized. All of these features help prevent graft migration and subsequent endoleak.Another highly valuable feature of the Zenith Flex graft is its delivery system, which allows for high precision placement and the user's ability to easily readjust the graft position prior to deployment of the transrenal barbs. By deploying the graft sequentially, the system allows the user to maintain control throughout the entire process.
As EVAR technology and techniques evolve to address the highly complex patient needs that are emerging, the design and function of this graft make it quite amenable to future developments in AAA repair, especially involving the pararenal region. This will allow more patients to be treated with endografts rather than conventional operations.
